Presenting my research, “The A.I. New Normal? Evaluating the Uses and Ethics of Artificial Intelligence in Advanced String Teaching,” at the European String Teachers Association Conference in Helsinki, Finland.
Artificial intelligence is, of course, a very controversial topic right now. My research is neither pro- nor anti-A.I., but instead takes a hard look at the applications that are already available, what they do, how they work, and how well they work. Does A.I. threaten to encroach on the string teaching profession the way it has already impacted performance and composition? That remains to be seen. The lively discussions that my research provoked in the audience definitely gave me some new arguments and counterarguments as I take this subject further with the aim of researching, writing, and publishing more about it.
Later that day, I went on a kind of pilgrimage to Ainola, the home and final resting place of Jean Sibelius. A magical and very special place.
